Ayahuasca ceremonies are intense and profound, they are safe when conducted by experienced shamans and guides, but can be quite dangerous when done by people who are not well trained or simply don’t really care about the participants. From offering a bad ayahuasca brew, to not being able to support physically and emotionally or joining a group where investigation and connection hasn’t been done with the participants prior to booking and encountering mates that are not ready for the experience or just think it is a drug party.

“At Masterplan we have a video call with every participant before assisting a retreat to know the participants, make sure everybody knows how sacred and serious this kind of retreats are, and to ensure that the diets and health requirements are all checked out.”

In The Ultimate Guide to choosing the perfect Ayahuasca retreat for you we will go through many myths and reality of ayahuasca retreats, and we will give you our honest opinion gathered after seing hundreds of participants come and experience ayahuasca in many different settings., let’s get into it!

1st consideration

How many ceremonies?

We strongly recommend retreat with at least 2 ayahuasca ceremonies, especially if it’s your first time. Many times it’s hard to surrender to the medicine at the first ceremony, we may have expectations and have a hard time relaxing and diving into the medicine process, and usually the second ceremony is much easier, as we already know how it goes and the second or third night helps us really understand and heal ourselves.
On the other hand, if you have never experienced an ayahuasca retreat we don’t recommend more than a 4 ayahuasca ceremonies for the first time, as you may have too much information to process and the integration may be overwhelming unless you are already feeling strong and capable to receive a lot of messages.

2nd consideration

Check the location

Should I go to the jungle in the Amazon or should I join a retreat in Europe? We would suggest starting slowly, as long as the medicine and the guides are good, a retreat in Europe will be fine if you are looking for inner evolution and personal development. If you are really interested in knowing the culture of ayahuasca from the native traditions then you should go to the jungle. What we’ve seen works the best is to start in Europe, making the whole trip easter and safer, and after a couple retreats we encourage everyone who really feel a connection with the medicine to go and experience ayahuasca in the jungle, this way you will get to understand the science of Yagé, and the ayahuasca people.

3rd consideration

House and Acommodations

There are different kinds of ayahuasca retreats for different kinds of people. You can find retreats in the heart of the city, in the forest, in big houses, or just in a little Maloka (House of Ayahuasca). At Masterplan we find it very important to organize our retreats in comfortable houses, surrounded by nature, and with many bedrooms so that not all the people it’s in one big room, this way we ensure that participants can have their own intimacy and their own space.

4th consideration

Budget

How much do you want to invest in yourself, your health and your self- development? Many retreats are quite expensive, this is because the accommodations are nice, the medicine is hard to prepare, and the Guides are well experienced. Usually 3 night retreats can go from 500€ up to the sky. If you are willing to apply the messages and receive the healing it’s definitely worth paying the price, as a life changing experience, new mindset and a better state of being is priceless. Masterplan retreats start at 600€ to 1500€ depending on how many ayahuasca nights and which type of room you choose.
